Online donations

Make giving easy, but be clear what the payment is.

A donation, sponsorship, membership payment and event ticket are not the same thing. The wording affects GST, receipts, donor expectations and reporting.

Givealittle

Useful for public fundraising pages, peer-to-peer campaigns, events and NZ charity/community fundraising. Check current fees and charity setup requirements before launch.

Stripe Payment Links

Useful for direct payment links, one-off payments, event tickets or recurring payments. Check current NZ processing fees and nonprofit eligibility.

Stripe Payment Links NZ

Bank transfer

Lowest cost, but weakest user experience. Use structured references, confirmation emails and a clean reconciliation sheet.

Receipt wording

Do not imply tax-credit status unless it is true.

Donors can claim donation tax credits only for donations to approved donee organisations and only if the IRD requirements are met. If the club is not an approved donee organisation, use a receipt that acknowledges the payment without tax-credit wording.

Donation page structure

  1. Say exactly what you are raising for.
  2. Show the target, deadline and use of funds.
  3. Use photos and one specific beneficiary story.
  4. Explain whether gifts are tax-credit eligible.
  5. Update supporters weekly until the campaign closes.
  6. Report what happened after money is spent.
